    Plaquenil and ringing in ears

Plaquenil is also known as a treatment for malaria, a blood-borne parasite spread by mosquitoes in many tropical and sub-tropical environments. The usual dose is between one and two tablets per day (200 to 400 mg per day). When Plaquenil works, most patients start to feel improvement after 8-12 weeks. When patients start Plaquenil, doctors usually have them try it for 3 months before they assess the patient to determine if it is working.

During the day when I am busy I can usually tune it out and it does not bother me so much. I guess I am just distracted from it if I am concentrating on doing things. At night is bothers me more.

Plaquenil is considered to be pretty safe, but it can rarely damage the eyes. If it isn’t working at all after this time then it is usually stopped.

  4. Hi, Has anyone had any problems with adverse effects from Plaquenil? I take 200 mg twice per day for 2 1/2 months now. At first, I had GI upset which resolved, but for that past month, I have had blurry vision, severe headaches, weakness, ringing ears and dizziness. I quit taking it Sunday and called my rheumatologist

The first time I tried Plaquenil I also had ringing, pressure feelings and dizziness in my ears. My Rheumy sent me to an ENT first to r/o hearing loss etc.when that came back OK, chalked it up to the plaquenil as a rare side effect. It was so bothersome we decided to try stopping the plaquenil but i went into a flare so went back on it. Synthesis of chloroquine? TheeHive Synthesis of chloroquine? I’m a doctor, and with the interest in chloroquine for COVID19, the potentially limited availability has been raised. Has anyone got any knowledge of it’s synthesis? I’m aware most is made from cinchona bark, but i believe there is also a direct synthesis pathway.
