Or you're dealing with a degenerative condition like arthritis. Whatever the cause, once you have low back pain, it can be hard to shake.

NSAIDs alone didn't help my daughter, but adding 5-Loxin was a game changer for her. Immune cells on the attack produce prostaglandins and leukotrienes and sometimes histamine. Medicines that inhibit these can help slow down the autoimmune response and provide symptom relief while DMARDs like Plaquenil need time to work. Plaquenil Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus & others. Plaquenil, widely used to treat lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory and dermatologic conditions, is very effective, and “the risk of toxicity in the first five years for someone without special risk factors is very low,” Dr. Marmor said. However, risk increases with duration of use.

And almost everyone can expect to experience back pain at some point in their lives. About one in four Americans say they've had a recent bout of low back pain.

  3. I have been on 400 mg daily of Plaquenil, last week my doctor took me off of it ue to increase in the pain I had been having in lower back and unbelievable pain in my left leg and especially the extreme pain in the heel of my left foot. It was becoming painful to walk. After 5 days of stopping pain was 80% better.

Mostly in my arms hands and ankles. Then I started to notice that I was having pain in my back and left hip as the day wore on and especially after taking the plaquenil in the evening. I am also taking methotrexate, which I have been on for years and prednisone which I also have been on for years. Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated. Oct 24, 2013 Today, I'm back to square one. I have UCTD but if I can't take Plaquenil, then I can't have anything. Not even for pain. Apparently, we wait for me to "develop" lupus or something, then I can have treatment. What should I do? Please advise me. Today, I'm back to square one. My new rheumy called today and said that my bloodwork was "all over the place." Also said that I have a positive rheumatoid factor, but that does not mean I necessarily have RA. You can do a drug search to get info, depending on which type you've been prescribed. I browsed news & found that tidbit came out about a week ago, on/about the 19th of July. But I read that LDL level is now (1) for patients at *high risk* of heart disease, 100 or lower, or possibly even 70 or lower, circumstances depending; (2) for patients at *moderate risk* of heart disease, 130 or lower, or possibly even 100 or lower, circustances depending; and (3) for low-risk patients, no change. All my best, Vee (edited to fix the figures I quoted, because my eyes and my brain have disconnected today... Men usually run 40 to 50 mg/dl, while women run 50 to 60. I'm awfully glad you have a doctor now who is actually treating you. My friend just started a statin, after trying unsuccessfully to bring her values down for several years via exercise and diet modifications. You could start your question list now & keep adding/editing right up until your that appt. I'm not sure why he is waiting, all the bloodwork is in. I'm glad to hear that Plaquenil lowers cholesterol - 15%-20% is terrific. As for starting the meds in Sept., I guess he didn't want to go over everything on the phone. I used to have a single article on cholesterol that I kept in my own health notebook. Inflammatory Osteoarthritis And Plaquenil Nov 28, 2010 Plaquenil reduces inflammation in many Rheumatic disorders, the mode of action is pretty complicated though so I shan't bore you with all the details, but basically it prevents your dendritic cells these are messengers for your immune system, if you will from interacting with your T-Cells a special type of white blood cell which through a convoluted and boring process, causes inflammation when an infection is found, and these basically malfunction with inflammatory disorders.
