    Plaquenil toxicity icd9

One such commonly used medication for dermatologic and rheumatologic inflammatory conditions is hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), a chloroquine derivative. It is used to treat many diseases including malaria, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.

METHODS A prospective and continuing evaluation was made of the potential retinal toxicity of hydroxychloroquine in a cohort of 360 Greek patients followed for RA and SLE, 58 of whom have received long term treatment six years. H35.00 is a billable/specific ICD-10-CM code that can be used to indicate a diagnosis for reimbursement purposes. The 2020 edition of ICD-10-CM H35.00 became effective on October 1, 2019. This is the American ICD-10-CM version of H35.00 - other international versions of ICD-10 H35.00 may differ. Feb 19, 2020 The adult dose of Plaquenil to treat an acute attack of malaria is an initial dose of 800 mg followed by 400 mg in six to eight hours and 400 mg for two more days. To treat lupus erythematosus, the average adult dose is 400 mg once or twice daily.

It is imperative that patients and physicians are aware of and watch for this drug’s ocular side effects. Retinal toxicity from hydroxychloroquine is rare, but even if the medication is discontinued, vision loss may be irreversible and may continue to progress.

Aug 06, 2014 Hydroxychloroquine, sold under the brand name Plaquenil Sanofi-Aventis, is an antimalarial drug that has gained widespread use in treating various autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. 1 By some estimates, more than 150,000 patients are on long-term therapy with this medication in America alone. 2 Retinal toxicity associated with HCQ use is relatively rare, estimated at 1 percent after five years and rising with continued therapy. 3 However. And if you do see adverse changes during a follow-up check for Plaquenil toxicity in most parts of the country you should still use V58.69 as the primary diagnosis, but use the changes as a secondary diagnosis, as well as the arthritis or whatever the reason is for the drug to be taken, a few Medicare carriers will want the ocular change as the primary diagnosis and the V58.69 code as secondary.

Plaquenil retinopathy - HealthBoards I have recently been diagnosed with Plaquenil retinopathy from 14 years of use with Plaquenil. I went off it on Feb 2 and my vision is still getting worse. Does anyone have vision problems from Plaquenil? If so, did your vision loss progress? I'm having a great deal of difficulty seeing.
